Youth Justice Service update - COVID - 19

Following the Government's announcement on 23 March 2020, the Youth Justice Service office at  Star House is now closed.

Youth Justice Service staf have been identified as Keyworkers and will remain working but will do so mainly from home.

The main exception to home working will be to progress those few matters that are still being heard at Court.

We have been in contact with each young person and their parent/carer to inform them of the current situation, and to discuss with them what it means for them personally - regarding their Court order or Out of Court disposal.  And also to discuss how their plan will be adapted in response to the present circumstances.

The Service is currently developing creative and innovative ways of using technology and other forms of interactive activities to communicate with youth people and their families/carers.

The COVID-19 crisis is hugely challenging for all of us.  I know that you may be worried about the implications of a period of isolation with schools being closed, about finance or about the availability of services to support young peope and their families/carers.  Whilst we may not be seeing young people in person, we are here to help you get through it.

Young people's Case Managers will be able to give advice and support regarding:

Education

Welfare benefits

Substance support

Emotional and mental health support

Criminal justice issues and what to do.

During this time it may be that Case Managers may not be available, take long to answer their phone or respond to you by e mail.  If you are experiencing difficulties then please call 0114 2288555 during office hours or e mail us at youthjusticeservice@sheffield.gov.uk

Please look after yourself, the people you know, the people you do not know and protect the NHS by following government advice on social distancing and person hygiene.
